Maxxam Enterprises commissioned Robin Brailsford for public art at three of their Garment District Buildings in Los Angeles. Sidewalk Storyboard tells the tale of a pair of bright red polyester hiphugger bell-bottom pants, from oil well to designer to pattern to sewing to shipping to UPS to window dressing to happy customer.
We wanted a fun small project that animated two blocks of super busy and chaotic global capitalism at street level.
Maxxam was great - and they were up for anything!
It is a good example of why sidewalk mosaics should be LthoMosaics and installed by a trained licensee. The low-bid contractor who installed these traditional mosaics left a lot to be desired. Always go for LithoMosaics - the quality cannot be beat.
